Richard Yanagihara, M.D., M.P.H., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology, in the John A. Burns School of Medicine, of the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
His scientific contributions, chronicled in nearly 300 journal articles and book chapters, have taken the form of problem-based, disease-oriented, long-term, high-risk, multidisciplinary, opportunistic investigations of medically urgent phenomena of regional importance and global relevance, conducted largely in the context of exploiting naturally occurring paradigms of high-incidence “place diseases” in human populations isolated by virtue of their genetics, culture and/or geography.
